Becoming a User

By becoming a user you will be able to have access to labs, resources, training, and equipment available at Montana State University. Whether as a student or a worker with an independent company, the Imaging and Chemical Analysis Laboratory will aid in any projects in need of our labs and equipment. Depending on what you need from the facility, you can apply either as a onsite or remote user.

Onsite Use

We encourage onsite use by any type of user, including MSU students, faculty, and staff or external commercial or academic users. ICAL staff can run the instrument for you while you guide the data acquisition process.

Remote use

ICAL staff is happy to run sample analysis remotely for any user. We prefer to have a conversation via online streaming or phone to discuss the types of analysis desired and the sample, to determine the sorts of sample prep and instrumentation needed. We also keep close touch with the remote user to determine if further analysis is needed or if questions arise regarding the analysis.

Short Courses

If you are or have recently become a user, ICAL offers short courses that users can learn before accessing the laboratory. It is important to know how to use the instrumentation properly before starting any research projects. Thankfully, there are short courses available for users to access by scheduling a time with faculty.
