5K10.28 Inducing Current in Coils
Demonstrate that an induced current is created in closed loops by dropping a magnet through two coils of wire. Drop the magnet through the loops without closing them to show that the magnet falls right through.
*WARNING* The magnet is VERY strong and must not be placed near ferromagnetic materials. Store magnet in plastic container when not in use.
Closing the loops with a wire slows the magnet as it goes through each coil (simmilar to the eddy current tube).
Closing the loops with LEDs will show that a current is indeed induced as the LEDs will flash as the magnet passes through.
