Version 1: Three Black Blocks of same volume

  • Ask students which of 3 equal size blocks experience more buoyant force in water: steel, aluminum or wood.
  • Set metal blocks gently into beaker.






        (put protective rubber disk in bottom of beaker)
        (fill beaker to 2500 ml)

 

Version 2: Coke vs. Diet Coke

Which will float, Coke or Diet Coke? The Diet Coke can will float while the can of Coke will sink. Both cans are the same volume.
